I’m grateful that my friend Brian Hibbert recommended Basquiat. It’s a cool film with an amazing cast! I’ll quote Brian from our message thread:

It’s one of the best films about… like the friction between art and commerce.

One of the cool things about that film is that it was directed by Julian Schnabel who not only knew Basquiat and all the people in that scene but is a fine artist in his own right. So there’s a lot of pretty scathing criticism of the art world in that film that feels like it’s coming from a very real place that’s articulated very well because Schnabel would know all about that and isn’t afraid to go there.

And yeah, the cast is incredible. Even with some of the minor roles. Michael Wincott’s in a few scenes playing an eccentric artist who dresses in civil war clothes and he’s such a great character actor.
